The Story of Tweeta – Flying Again with Vet Therapy Radiofrequency

Vet Therapy Radiofrequency

Dr. Valentina Bruson, a specialist in veterinary medicine, was contacted by a client seeking treatment for Tweeta, an Agapornis, commonly known as a lovebird, that had suffered a wing dislocation accompanied by a minor fracture of the proximal humeral epiphysis a couple of months earlier. Due to the patient’s small size, the location of the trauma, and the fact that nearly two weeks had passed before the bird was examined, surgical reduction was not a viable option.

Orthopedic intervention, such as pin placement, could not be performed with a predictable outcome. At the time of the first visit, Tweeta had already begun forming a bone callus and was affected by a severe muscle contracture that prevented proper wing extension. Dr. Bruson therefore developed a customized radiofrequency treatment protocol using the Vet Therapy device. Thanks to the Direct Data Entry mode of the Vet Therapy Line, it was possible to tailor the therapy specifically to this exotic patient.

Vet Therapy: an ally also for exotic animal conditions

After the first treatment, Tweeta already showed improvement, beginning to extend the wing more freely. Within one month, she was able to fully open her wing, although she was not yet able to fly. The radiofrequency treatment period was extended to five weeks. However, therapy had to be temporarily paused when Tweeta entered her brooding phase, in order not to compromise the hatchlings. During this period, the bird only left the nest to eat and drink and made no attempt to fly.

Once the brooding phase was over, Tweeta gradually began flying short distances and is now steadily regaining confidence in her abilities. This case highlights how customized protocols and radiofrequency, one of the core technologies of the Vet Therapy Line, can effectively support recovery even in delicate and complex cases involving exotic animals, improving their overall quality of life.
