Dr. Isabella Polverini, a specialist in Small Animal Clinical Pathology and Medicine, was contacted by a pet owner seeking a non-invasive, home-based pain management solution for Doris, her 19-year-old dog suffering from chronic arthritis and osteoarthritis. Doris had been spending most of her time lying on a mat. To help her stand and walk several times a day, the owner relied on a supportive harness.
Clinically, Doris presented as a geriatric patient in overall good health; however, due to chronic pain, she dragged her hind limbs and showed dorsiflexion of the left hind paw. Prior to this intervention, Doris had been managed exclusively with NSAIDs for pain control, administered in 15-day cycles followed by monthly breaks. While this conservative approach provided partial relief, it did not allow her to maintain a normal quality of life.
Dr. Polverini decided to treat Doris with Vet Therapy Line through home-based radiofrequency sessions. The portability of the device made it possible to deliver therapy directly in the patient’s home environment, reducing stress and ensuring maximum comfort for the animal. Considering Doris’s general condition, prolonged inactivity, and significant muscle atrophy, the primary goal was to improve her quality of life.

After the first two sessions, spaced 72 hours apart, the owner reported noticeable improvement: Doris was able to walk better, although she still fatigued easily. Although Doris is not yet able to stand completely on her own, she no longer requires NSAIDs. The significant reduction in pain has led to a marked improvement in her overall quality of life.
